SOMEONE TOOK JESUS
A couple of days after Christmas, the Nativity scene was still up in the chancel of a San Francisco church. Walking by it, the pastor noticed that the baby Jesus was missing from the manger.
Shortly afterward, as the pastor walked outside the church, he saw a small boy pulling a new wagon. In the wagon bed was a doll that looked very much like the missing baby Jesus.
The pastor greeted the boy and asked him about the doll.
“I got it in the church,” the boy replied.
“Why did you take it from the church?”
“Well,” the boy answered. “I prayed for a new wagon and told the Lord Jesus that if I got one, I would give him a ride. I got the wagon, took him for a ride and now I’m bringing him back to the church.”

A MIGHTY MESSAGE
When Charles Wesley wrote “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” in 1739, he had the angels proclaim: “Glory to the newborn King; peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!”
And what did Wesley think should be the consequences of that message?
“Joyful, all ye nations, rise.” The Prince of Peace had come.
“Light and life to all he brings.”
“Born that we no more may die; born to raise us from the earth, born to give us second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King!”
When Wesley wrote that hymn, England was going through a desperate, hopeless time. Unemployment, poverty, illness, alcoholism and crime were widespread. Wesley and his brother, John, believed the answer for their nation was Christ’s life-changing message. Changed lives would bring a changed nation.
Wesley’s Christmas song rang true: “Light and life to all he brings.” Some historians have written that England didn’t have a revolution (as did France) mainly because of the message the Wesley’s preached and sang.

We warmly welcome all who have come to worship today, especially visitors. We strive to be a loving church family. We invite you to join us.
COME WORSHIP WITH US CHRISTMAS EVE
For many of us there is no time of the year when worship is more meaningful than Christmas Eve. The music, the decorated sanctuary, our families gathered, the excited children, and most central of all, the Christmas story itself. They all work together to create a deeply spiritual moment. Again this year we will celebrate the Christ Child’s birth in candlelight services at 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
The first service will be in the sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. and will include our children’s choirs, and our Chancel Choir. What a great time to bring all your family, friends, and neighbors. An infant and toddler nursery will be provided and a gift book that tells the Christmas story will be waiting for each child.
Our second service of the evening will begin at 11:00 p.m. as we gather at the home (barn) of Pat & Milt Wright (4780 W. Van Buren: Take Lincoln Rd. west to Winans, south on Winans 1 mile to Van Buren, east on Van Buren to the luminaries). This country setting provides a more serene backdrop as we worship and praise. Come and be greeted with a hot cup of cocoa or coffee and cookies. This candlelight service will include music and a unique sharing of the birth of Christ. There is plenty of parking and Wright’s barn is warm. This service is not the same as the earlier service and many people have found it meaningful to attend both services.

THE HEARTFELT CHRISTMAS TREE
There is a special Christmas tree
That lives within the heart.
It isn’t pine, and can’t be bought
At any store or mart.
Each branch holds some fond memory
Of joyful Christmas cheer.
Reminding us of those we love
And always will hold dear.
The gifts beneath this Christmas tree
Are stacked up very high
With kindly deeds of thoughtfulness
That one could never buy.
The Heartfelt Christmas tree expands
Through every passing year
With lovely gifts and blessings
Having come from far and near.
Atop this tree a star shines bright,
While angels sing God’s praise;
Rejoice! The Christ-child’s Love is shared,
And blesses ALL our days.
~Peggy Ferrell

HEIFER MARKETPLACE!
Did you visit our parlor for the 2007 "Heifer Marketplace" on, December 2nd? Sunday school classes, as well as other groups, had tables available in the parlor to share information on this worthwhile project, and allowed you the opportunity to purchase a living gift for friends and family. Heifer Project Living Gifts are a great way to Christmas shop for friends and family while helping those in our world who are less fortunate. To participate, you "buy" shares of animals that are given to impoverished rural families around the world. These animals, such as chicks, bees, fish, rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, water buffalo, llamas and heifers, provide food and income for the families for years to come. When you honor friends and family with your purchase of these "Living Gift Shares," they will receive an attractive card explaining the gift given in their name. "Living Gifts" are a unique alternative to commercial gifts which may not be needed, or can be given in addition to traditional gifts. Plan now to participate in this meaningful mission outreach of our church.
Heifer Project International is an on-going solution to solve hunger throughout the world.
